"Ikumimama no Doubutsu doughnuts"
"Ikumi mama's animal doughnuts"
are the most kawaii handmade doughnuts in Japan.
They have a shop located in Tokyo (not sure where else), but luckily they had set up a pop up shop in Aomori over the weekend,
so of course, I had to get my hands on them.
There were so many to choose from, and they were all so cute that I had the hardest time only picking out six out of the many that were available.
I believe there are a total of 22 different types of animals altogether.
They are on the pricier side.
Each donut ranges from about $3-$4 USD (280-390yen)each.
For a package of 6, I paid roughly $17 (1750 yen).
The real question is, are they really worth spending all of that money for a single donut when you can buy other Japanese donuts for only $1 (100 yen)?
The answer is, it depends.
If I were to base it off of taste and freshness alone, I would say
no, it's not worth it because they come frozen, making them not as soft and fresh as other donuts I've had.
It's also recommended to eat them on the same day for best taste,
but you can freeze them for up to ten days if you buy too many.
However if you want them just for the aesthetic and a cool Instagram photo, then the answer is,
yes- you need them in your life.
The things we do for Instagram haha.
I like the fact that each donut was individually wrapped and came with a little booklet (all in Japanese) that shows off all of the donuts available and what each flavor is.
If I'm going to be completely honest, although each doughnut was a different flavor, they all tasted the same to me at the end of the day.
